Sport and Exercise Science Pathway

If you are looking to progress into a degree within Sport and Exercise Science in our School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences this pathway will provide you with the knowledge and range of skills you need to succeed.

Throughout your foundation year, you'll study four modules tailored to prepare you for success in your future Bachelors degree.

  • Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology will provide you with a core understanding of the body's major systems and their interplay. Through this module, you will become familiar with anatomical terminology and develop an understanding of organ, muscle, and bone placement. Emphasis will be placed on recognising the significance of anatomy and physiology in the context of sport and exercise science.
  • Introduction to Applied Psychology will explore key psychological theories and their application across various domains, notably in sport and exercise psychology.
  • Mathematics and Statistics for Sport and Exercise Science will improve your mathematical and statistical proficiency and is tailored to the demands of the discipline.
  • And finally, you'll take our Research and Academic Development Skills module, which will help you to conduct academic research effectively and communicate proficiently within your field. Practical exercises across all modules will bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, preparing you for diverse areas of interest within Sport and Exercise Science programmes.

These four modules will develop your communication skills (both written and oral), improve your critical thinking, enhance your IT proficiency, embed laboratory techniques specific to Sport Sciences, introduce you to data analysis and experimental findings presentation skills, and refine your problem-solving, time management, and reflective practice.
